The preparations plan was accordingly altered to incorporate two per ship. By Monday, 13 August, all six of the required guns had arrived hi Halifax, in various states of disrepair. Even with the assistance of qualified army weapons technicians from Chatham and Gagetown, five days later only four of the guns were serviceable.

Harpoon surface-to-surface missiles were fitted on Terra Nova in place of ASROC (an anti-submarine weapon). 3 Of all the upgrades, Protecteur's was especially dramatic as the previously unarmed supply ship was brought up to a minimum self-defence level, with new radars, electronic warfare equipment, SATCOM, and two CIWS mountings.
